Classical Ballet R.A.D
Classical Ballet is a great foundation for all forms of dance. Ballet students are very adaptable to other styles of dance. It is however difficult for those who haven’t done ballet and reach teenage years to adapt to ballet- so we highly recommend ballet for all our beginners and little dancers. We follow the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus as it is one of the only syllabuses that is internationally recognized. R.A.D caters for both Girls and Boys and is for those students who are focused or want more focus. The class teaches the importance of discipline and focus for the mastery of technique. These classes can also be taken to improve general technique for other styles of dance. It is highly recommended that all ballet students participate in at least two ballet classes per week to fully gain the understanding and development of this discipline.
R.A.D Exams
The advantage of the examination process is that it allows students to value and see their own progress, as well as teaching goal setting and achievement. I have found most students who take exams improve dramatically and feel great. Confidence is always increased when students begin to see their own merits and that their hard work has paid off. Exams are optional and two classes of R.A.D ballet are required for this process. Exams are held annually towards the end of July. All DDTP students have had a 100% pass rate in R.A.D examinations.
Jazz/Funk/Hip Hop
Our basic jazz, funk and Hip Hop classes are combined. The combination provides jazz technique (turns, leg kicks, leaps etc). Each class will learn two routines for the end of year concert. One routine will be Hip Hop and the other will be a jazz/funk base. These classes are sharp, dynamic, funky and Fun!
Contemporary
Contemporary dance can be described as very expressive, moody and soft. Many people describe contemporary as the meeting point between jazz and ballet. A fluid, dramatic dance style open to a variety of choreographic interpretations.
Musical Theatre
Musical theatre is a class for those who wish to further develop their performance and theatre skills. The class develops acting skills, singing skills, voice projection, script reading, blocking and theatre sports. Students in this class will participate in our mid year Musical and end of year concert.
Tiny Tots - Pre-School Class
The pre-school class combines ballet and jazz and runs for 45mins. Our program is full of imagination and creativity for 3-5year olds girls and boys. We specialise in developing gross motor skills, an appreciation of rhythm and timing, musical awareness, movement and grace. This class is lots of fun and a great foundation for little people.
Advanced Classes
Performance Troupe
Our Performance troupes represent our school at eisteddfods and other events. These classes cater for those dancers who particularly enjoy performing and would like the opportunity to be on stage multiple times throughout the year, and not just at our end of year concerts. Our Troupes have won numerous awards and are now nationally recognised as exemplary performers. Troupe members must participate in at least one other Jazz class per week and must audition for a position in the troupe.

The Master Dancer
This is an annual course taught by Director Kate Histon. A comprehensive program, the course provides students with beneficial tools to learn how to get the best out of every performance through the power of their mind and focus, and deals with issues such as overcoming fears, jealousy and insecurities. Students are also taught how to communicate effectively and are introduced to teaching skills, Human anatomy and Dance History. Participants are also given the opportunity to experience being a teacher assistant.
Private Coaching
Private coaching offers students the opportunity to further improve their dance technique and to master solo routines. These one-to-one classes give students the chance to have their dancing personally assessed and to focus on specific areas of their dance. Students are welcome to book private coaching sessions with a teacher of their choice. For bookings, please phone our office.
Life Coaching
Director Kate Histon also brings her Life Coaching profession to the dance school and is available for individual sessions with students wanting to develop and improve their self-regard, esteem and relationship with their dancing. Her work has been known to help many dancers overcome their fears with regard to performance work, as well as equipping them with general life skills.
